Time machine is a comfy dorm for 8 persons with a shared bathroom. We call it the time machine because a friend of the owner was allowed to name one of the rooms and she thought it would be funny to name it after the formula for time travelling... So now this cosy dormitory is called "Time Machine" and the decorations and interior are inspired by the theme of time travelling and created by the fantastic Icelandic painter (and our good friend) Mekkín.

Gimli - Mixed dorm for 4 persons
Gimli comes from the old Icelandic sagas of heathen heaven. Long before The Freezer came to live there was a small guesthouse in town called Gimli. This guesthouse was run by the grandparents of Kári, the owner and manager of The Freezer. He gave this room the name of Gimli to honour the memory of this guesthouse as well as his grandparents. Furhermore you might want to know that this room used to be storage for containters and plastics when our premises served as a fish factory.

The Freezer is a social hostel situated in a retro style renovated fish factory in the small town of Rif on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. We have a bar, regular events and an artists residency running at our premises and a national park on our doorstep.
Hulduból - Quadruple Room
Hulduból means Home of the hidden people. This private room for 4 persons used to be the coffee room and boss' office before we broke the middle wall and turned it into this small but comfy dorm. The name of the room is actually a thank you from the owner, Kári, to his aunt, Hulda, who helped him enormously with the bulding of the bar in The Freezer. Hulda is an icelandic name for women but also has the meaning of something hidden. Huldufólk = Hidden people. In the near future this room will be painted in with the inspiration of stories of hidden people so don´t be alarm if you turn up and the room will seem a bit different than you expected. In each case it will be clean, warm, cosy and you will sleep like a baby.

This budget friendly private room can fit up to four persons and is a part of The Freezer Hostel; An award winning social hostel, professional theatre and culture centre in the small fishing village of Rif on The Snæfellsnes peninsula, opposite Snæfellsjökull glacier and next door to the national park.
The Boiler - 4 person dorm with a private bathroom
The Boiler was the actual boiler room back in the day when The Freezer Hostel was a fish factory. Now the room serves as accommodation primarily for artists that come to do residencies at The Freezer but sometimes the room is rented out. The Residency is in the back end of the house, behind one of our performance spaces. The room has it´s own private entrance and a private bathroom.

The Boiler Room used to be the actual boiler room when the building was a fish factory. Now it has been renovated as a 4 person dormitory with a private bathroom. The room is located in The Freezer Hostel & Culture Centre in Rif. An award winning social hostel that offer cultural events such as live music, cinema screenings and theatre to its many guests. In the summertime guests may expect events every night of the week but in winter the events are more spread out and not as common. Edit
